Regatta Radio 2012 an introduction:
Regatta Radio is a pop-up radio station for Henley Royal Regatta. Celebrating our seventh year we broadcast for a period of 10 days starting with the Qualifying Races on the Friday prior to the start of the Regatta and finishing after the prize giving the following Sunday.
The broadcast dates for 2012 are Friday 22 June – Sunday 2 July inclusive.
Our listeners can pick up our FM frequency, 87.7FM, within an 8 mile radius of our studio at the Regatta, though often it can be heard further afield. Regatta Radio’s listeners hear us in their cars on the way to Henley, at their homes in and around the town or at the Regatta itself using one of our branded ear-piece radios (incidentally the only electronic device allowed in the Stewards Enclosure). Streamed live over the internet on www.regattaradio.co.uk we have thousands of listeners stretching from London to Los Angeles, Sydney to Caracas and beyond.
Our broadcast output covers all the build-up to the event, including interviews with athletes, crews, coaches, Henley Stewards, rowing journalists and many of the characters associated with the Regatta, including features about the history of Henley Regatta and the various different competitions. This year for the first time we will be providing comprehensive coverage of the Draw held in Henley Town Hall on Saturday 23 June.
Once the racing starts on Wednesday 27th June we will start each morning with a preview of the days racing by Rachel Quarrell, rowing correspondent of The Telegraph, followed by stroke by stroke coverage of every race with our exclusive team of commentators led by Robert Treharne-Jones, the voice of every world rowing event and one of only two commentators selected to provide on course commentary at the London Olympic Regatta.
During lunch and tea intervals we will be getting to grips with all the movers and shakers at the Regatta with our team of roving reporters, interviewing rowers, spectators and pundits and picking-up on Henley Royal Regatta’s unique atmosphere.
A further innovation this year is our specially commissioned series of interviews conducted by one of the best known sports broadcasters in the UK and current presenter of SKY’s F1 Legends series; Steve Rider. These will sit alongside the fascinating history features with Chris Dodd, former rowing correspondent for The Guardian and co-founder of Henley’s River & Rowing Museum.
Rounding out our broadcast output will be Regatta Radio’s usual highlights packages, competitions, weather and traffic reports. Once the Regatta starts we will be keeping music to a minimum in our quest to bring the full flavour of the event to the world.
And then, if you’ve missed anything during the day we repeat highlights and interviews throughout the night, stream them on our website and in another innovation for 2012 will be providing a daily podcast offering extended interviews, analysis and discussion.
Our history of continuity, expertise and innovation over 6 years means that there has never been a better time to partner with Regatta Radio… with you every stroke of the way.
